JESA ANNOUNCES THE SIGNATURE OF A PMC ROLE CONTRACT WITH SNIM FOR THE FOLLOW-UP OF THE REHABILITATION AND MODERNIZATION OF THE GUELB 1 PLANT IN ZOUERATE.
· SNIM, Mauritania’s National Industrial and Mineral Engineering Company, awarded JESA the technical assistance for the supervision of the rehabilitation and modernization works of the Guelb 1 plant in Zouerate.
· This project is JESA and SNIM’s first building block and contribution for a radiant industrial future of the region.
June 22, 2021 - Casablanca, JESA announced today the signature with SNIM for PMC (Project Management Consultancy) role of the rehabilitation and modernization of their Guelb 1 plant.
As part of this two-year contract, starting from selection of EPC contractors, JESA will ensure the following project management and support missions: Supporting SNIM on Contractors bid evaluation, technical review of detail engineering as well as construction and commissioning of the project.
SNIM's mining activity started in 1961, when the company began the operation of the naturally rich deposits in the Tiris Zemmour region. In addition to these rich ore deposits, the region contains significant reserves of magnetite (with a low iron content of 34 to 37%) in the Guelb Rhien area. In order to develop these huge reserves, SNIM started in 1984 a dry beneficiation plant (Usine Guelb 1) with a capacity of 5 million tons per year. In 2015, a second semi-wet enrichment plant (Usine Guelb 2), with a capacity of 4 million tons per year, was commissioned on the same site. The process of the Guelb 2 plant is based on HPGR technology instead of the Aerofall mills of the Guelb 1 plant. After more than 30 years of exploitation, the SNIM has identified the need to rehabilitate and modernize the Guelb 1 plant.
